Today, in response to information and guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) which declared a global pandemic of COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Washington, D.C. Health Department, the Disability Policy Seminar sponsoring partners announce it is necessary to cancel the 2020 Disability Policy Seminar (DPS).
We recognize all the hard work that so many have put into preparing for DPS and the critical importance of bringing the voices of the disability community to Washington, but the evolving circumstances including travel bans, quarantines and identified high risk to people with some types of disabilities make it clear that it would be an unacceptable risk to bring so many people together this month.
This will be the first time that the DPS event has been canceled, but it is clear that cancellation is unavoidable in order to protect members of the disability community and continue our important work.
